Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
Under the new legislation the process of determining and supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities has changed and in response to this we have added this page to our website to enable us to post updates, add attachments and provide links to further support and services.
Essex County Council has produced its ‘Local Offer’ for children and families and is available through their website portal: www.essexlocaloffer.org.uk
Originally schools were also asked to produce a ‘schools offer’, this has now been renamed as the school’s ‘SEND Information Report’, and our full version is available in PDF form at the bottom of this page.
The following extract is from the beginning of our SEND Information Report and encapsulates our position as a small school and the support we can offer:
We are a very small village school where a third of our school population has chosen to come out of their own local school catchment area to our school. Also those children who have attended our school with a statement of special educational need in the last few years have all been from outside our catchment. So the main piece of advice from the school would be read our ‘SEND Information Report’ on the website but then the crucial thing is to visit the schools you are interested in and talk to the Headteacher / SENCO about what your child needs. As a small school it is impossible for us to be able to know everything about the wide range of special educational needs and disabilities but we are very adaptable and will do our utmost to ‘skill up’ and we have provided extra support even when the LA have been unable to provide extra funding. Our strength lies in the ethos of our school; knowing our children and providing an encouraging and ‘can do’ approach to learning.
Please contact the school and talk to our Headteacher or our SENCO, Mrs. Jenny Jinks
In the past few years we have worked closely with LA specialist teachers to support children with Hearing Impairment, Down Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and Global Learning Delay.
